This article describes the procedures and requirements of .am domain names.
Click on the subject below to open the dropdown for more information.

The registration of a .am domain name via RCP or XML API or REST API requires:

- A minimum of 2, maximum 4 nameservers is required.

- A full set of contact handles is required (Owner, Admin, Tech, Billing), with a maximum of 1 for each function. The same contact handle can be used for Owner, Admin, Tech, Billing.

- Bogus data in contact handles is not allowed, they must contain real data. I.e. using Domain Administrator as name is not allowed.

- The name of the owner has to be written in full. Initials will cause the registration to be declined.

RESTRICTIONS FOR DOMAIN NAMES:

- .AM doesn't allow sexual context for domain names. In effect, to be on the safe side, the domain name should not contain any sexual related information.

- Also not allowed: Geographical names, country names and two/three-letter country codes (ISO 3166 Country Codes), widely known acronyms and abbreviations, generic terms.

- The registry can revoke an existing .AM domain if it is proved that the domain is being used for spreading spam and/or any illegal or inappropriate purposes (to stir up an international, ethnic, religious discord, to abet in international terrorism, to promote violence, to boost up pornography, to support trafficking)

Owner change (trade)

To change the owner of a .am domain name a letter of authority is required. This means that a signed letter from the current owner is needed which explains that the domain is to be traded to a new owner. This letter has to be sent to our support department along with a copy of the ID of the current owner. Due to the manual processing of an owner change it can take a few days for this process to be complete.

Other update

A change in the domain name is processed real-time, but it can take up to 24 hours for the whois to be updated.

Registration agreement The registry requires that a registration agreement is in place between the provider and the domain holder. The text of this registration agreement and any required supplements is the following:

Due to the regular changes in registry rules and configuration or missing information from registry side, and despite our effort to keep our knowledge base up-to-date, information in the knowledge base may be outdated or incorrect. If you encounter some issue, please report it through the "HotJar" feedback collector on the bottom right, or (if it is blocked by your browser) by clicking the "Submit a request" link below. No rights can be derived from the information in this knowledge base. If there is discrepancy between the knowledge base and the process in Openprovider, the process in Openprovider is leading.
