Successful domain registration via RCP or API requires:

  • two or more nameservers or a nameserver group
  • Administrative contact must be private person.

Note that the registry will always include the registrar's contractual details as technical contact. That means that the whois will always show Openprovider's data.

Successful domain transfer via RCP or API requires:

  • authorisation code
  • two or more nameservers or a nameserver group

Additional notes on a .lv transfer

  • A domain name may not be transferred in the same month as its registration or the month afterwards. A domain name may not be transferred within the first month after its renewal.
  • The transfer code is valid for 7 days only.
  • Transfer is automatically approved after 5 days if not rejected by the current registrar or the domain holder. The transfer will be immediately approved if the current registrar approves the transfer explicitly.
  • The registry will not send an e-mail to the domain contacts after the transfer finishes.

Other update

  • requested via RCP or API
  • processed realtime

Explicit delete

  • Requested via RCP or API
    • After sending a delete request, the registry will send to the domain owner an e-mail, asking him if he wants to take over the management of the domain. If he does not do that within 3 working days, the registry will remove the domain from the zone file.
    • After 30 more days, the domain becomes available again.
    • If a recently registered domain name is deleted before it has been billed to the registrar (normally within the first 60 days), the registry will not delete the domain immediately but mark it 'auto-expire' after the first year of registration.

Restore / reactivate

  • If the registrant has chosen to take over the management of the domain name, he can choose to transfer the domain to Openprovider again.
  • If the domain was not taken over and is still in its 30 days "locked" period, please contact us and include the domain name and approval on the €25 reactivation fee in your request.

Registration agreement The registry requires that a registration agreement is in place between the provider and the domain holder. The text of this registration agreement and any required supplements is the following:

Due to the regular changes in registry rules and configuration or missing information from registry side, and despite our effort to keep our knowledge base up-to-date, information in the knowledge base may be outdated or incorrect. If you encounter some issue, please report it through the "HotJar" feedback collector on the bottom right, or (if it is blocked by your browser) by clicking the "Submit a request" link below. If there is discrepancy between the knowledge base and the process in Openprovider, the process in Openprovider is leading.
