Registration process:

  • If registrant is a company:
    • Registrant sends a company business certificate with company logo to Openprovider support via email
    • Openprovider support sends  a registration application form
    • Registrant fills the form in and sends to Openprovider support
    • Within 2 to 4 weeks registry approves or rejects the registration
  • If registrant is a person:
    • Registrant sends a copy of ID or passport to Openprovider support via email
    • Openprovider support sends  a registration application form
    • Registrant fills the form in and sends to Openprovider support
    • Within 2 to 4 weeks registry approves or rejects the registration
  • Transfer - process is manual, request should be submitted to Openprovider support
  • Transfer application form completion is required. Form sent back via email in response to transfer request

Owner change (trade)

  • Trade - prohibited by registry. Only qualifying reasons are:
    • For persons: right of succession
    • For companies: collaboration, consolidation or other similar reasons
  • If above conditions are met - can be requested via Openprovider support

Other update

  • Domain attributes update - via RCP or API. Not real-time, can take up to 7 days to complete
  • Update confirmation by domain owner is required - email is sent to domain owner's address

Delete

  • Delete - singed letter from the domain owner is required. Owner is notified 35 days before expiration. If cancellation is rejected - domain renewed automatically

Restore / reactivate

.cy is a manual ccTLD where you cannot cancel the deletion request through our interface.

    During this period, following after an expiration, the domain can be restored for free. This period does not apply if the domain is deleted explicitly. More info.

    During this period, an expired or deleted domain name can be reactivated at an additional fee.

  • The top level domain .cy itself is not available for registration
  • Nameservers must be configured and return an authoritative answer before the domain is requested.
  • Copy of commercial license (companies) or copy of Identity Card (natural persons).
  • A natural person must be at least 18 years of age
  • Limited number of domains per registrant (10 for legal entities; 1 for natural persons)
  • The domain name should not contain any obscene words and names incorporating foul language or names that do not comply with the Laws of Cyprus
  • The domain name may not relate to politicians or political or historical activities or for which permission is required from a competent Cyprus Authority unless and except such permission is given and proven to the registry
  • The domain name may not be a generic, sectoral or a fundamental name which identifies a branch, group, activity, professional or business sector. Registering such a name could unfairly imply certain or exclusive rights appertaining to it.
  • Geographic names which identify geographical locations as they are found on official maps can be issued only to the relevant local authority.
