Registration is not real time, and is a manual process.

To register a .gov.ng, you have to send us a scanned letter on the letterhead of the ministry or state government parastatal that plans to register the domain name to us. The letter must contain the domain name to be registered (confirm that the domain of choice meets all criteria by sending a mail to us with the proposed domain name before preparing this letter) and the name of the person authorized to register the domain. This authorized person must be working at the ministry and the following details should be stated in the letter:

Full name of the authorized person:

Designation:

Email address:

Phone number:

Contact address:

Once this has been sent, your request will be vetted at NITDA they would proceed to confirm that your request is genuine. Once they confirm and approved, we will submit this on our system for you and It should take about 1 week for your domain to be registered and activated.

Successful domain transfer via RCP or XML API or REST API requires:

  • authorisation code
  • two or more nameservers or a nameserver group

Alternatively, the gaining registrar can initiate a transfer request without an auth. code and the losing registrar will have to approve the request.

Due to the regular changes in registry rules and configuration or missing information from registry side, and despite our effort to keep our knowledge base up-to-date, information in the knowledge base may be outdated or incorrect. If you encounter some issue, please report it through the "HotJar" feedback collector on the bottom right, or (if it is blocked by your browser) by clicking the "Submit a request" link below. No rights can be derived from the information in this knowledge base. If there is discrepancy between the knowledge base and the process in Openprovider, the process in Openprovider is leading.
