If the certificate expiration date is too close, then renewal is required. The certificate renew period is equal to the initial product lifetime. This means that if your certificate was issued for two years, it can only be renewed for two years, if it was issued for one year, than renewal will be fore one year as well. Renew is charged at the same price as issuance. If auto-renewal is enabled, renewal will start automatically 15 days prior to the expiration date. If you manage renewals manually, renewals can be started at the most 90 days, but at the least 1 day, before the expiration date. After you click the renew button in the Actions block, follow the link to the RCP, from where you can complete the renewal process. In the case of Symantec SSL certificates, a confirmation letter will be sent to an admin mailbox. After confirming the renewal, you will see the new certificate has status 'requested' and old one has 'renewed' status. Once the process is complete, the current tab status changes to ‘active’ and the renewed certificate will be extended by the renew period plus any days that were left unused before the expiration date at the moment of renewal.
