Step 5 - Requesting a domain name

Registering a domain name

If you want to register a new domain name you can do so by navigating to 'Domain registration' which can be found under the section 'Domain management'. On the new page you can enter the domain name that you desire.

As you can see I did not select the TLD in the dropdown, this is optional. You can also choose the TLD by simply typing it out like I did in the picture. Hitting Enter on your keyboard or clicking on 'Check Availability' will fill it in for you and check the domain.

If the domain name is still available you can register it by clicking 'Continue to step 2: Configure domain' on the bottom-left.

When configuring the domain name for registration you can use the customer handles that you created before. Fill in the owner, administrative contact and technical contact for the domain name and select which nameservers you want to use.

As you can see you can choose to have the other contacts to be 'Equal to domain owner'. This is very usefull as you do not need to fill in each field individually with the same information. If you click on the field and start typing another contact's name it will present you with the contact handle you want to select.

Once you have filled in all the necessary fields you can order the domain name by clicking 'To step 3: Finish order'.

Our system will then attempt to register the domain name for you and will let you know immediately if it worked!

Transferring a domain name

If you already have a domain name at a different registrar and wish to transfer this to Openprovider you can also choose to transfer the domain name. To transfer a domain name you can navigate to 'Transfer' and follow the same steps as above. Please note that the procedure to transfer a domain name is different per tld, you can check our documentation on how to transfer your specific domain name in our tld documentation.

Some TLDs will require an authorization code, others do not. The system will ask for this information when you place your order.

We created a larger article about domain transfers which can be found here, it contains some more information and will tell you how to schedule domain tranfers as well.
